Unlike my feeling with Final Crisis's final destination, I read the last issue of Incredible Hercules and loved it. I especially loved Snowbird's reaction to being recruited for Omega Flight...and the current Guardian doing it.

And Hercules not wanting to lead.

Though odd he didn't want Thor on board for the quest given Herc and Thor are buddies.

And a bad owen for the trip already if what the last page showed is what it might be.

In any case if you want to see someone going to strike back at the Skrulls this is the book for you.

Or if you liked WWH and Planet Hulk.

I read the Vision Quest trade yesterday, and damn was it good.

John Bryne showed why he is a master storyteller with that arc. And nothing of the retcons Avengers Forever had changed it much.

Of course given Immortalus was watching the events and crackling over it, a Space Phantom being involved to dig the dagger in deeper really isn't that hard to take.

Now lets look at Wanda's two decents into madness.

Under Bryne: Her husband is taken apart like a broke PC and his hard drive (and memory back ups elsewhere) erased. He literally is no longer the man Wanda married and she seems to be the only one that really cares. Wonder Man is being a love struck dick and not willing to give his memory engrams to fix Vision. Her children turn out to not be real and are pieces of a Demon's soul (at least that's how it appears).

No wonder she snapped with that sort of personal trauma dumped on her (and all started by Immortalus to use her as a weapon).

Under Bendis: She doesn't have her period and "suddenly remembers" her kids. That's it.

Ummm....she never forgot about them. It never came up because it was a painful subject. You don't see Tony Stark talking about his spine turned to neuro paste do you? Or when he went on ice for a while? Yet you don't doubt they remember those events.

I just hope Wanda can wash off the Dissassemble crap like Hal Jordan was of the Parallax stuff.

Oh and reading Vision Quest, and then #4 of Young Avengers Presents in one sitting is a bit weird, but fun.

Remembering Star Trek Early Voyages and When the Sea Meets the Sky

Given I'm writing a Pike era Enterprise story, I might as well speak of the insperation for that story.

The two sources of that insperation are the Star Trek Early Voyages comic (truely an underrated title given I haven't heard many speak praises of it), and the Captain's Table When the Sea Meets the Sky novel (again another story I haven't heard anyone else speak praises of).

There is just something about that era of Star Trek that appeals to me(and a lot of other people since they tend to give Pike a novel every so often and a comic series or one shots). Then again we only know the fate of three things: Pike himself, Spock, and the Enterprise.

We don't even know Number One's name (though one source claims that is her name) yet alone her ultimate fate.

And we know very little of the two five year missions Pike had as Captain of Enterprise. Well other then the fact he had to some interesting adventures given how things for that lineage.

That's probably part of the thrill of writing about that era. We have some idea where the journey ends for a few things, but the fate of everyone else on the ship is up in the air.

Plus there's the fact its always about the journey then the destination into where a place that might not be the future of Trek, but it is an undiscovered country.

And isn't exploring those undiscovered countries and boldying going where no man...no one has gone before the point of Star Trek?

A bit belated by still relevant..My thoughts on the Transformers Live Action Movie

Short answer: I fucking hated it.

Long Answer: I really, really hated it.

Lets go into the ways I hated it shall we.

1) The Transformers aren't the actual stars of their own movie.

I've heard several people say "But it isn't a cartoon" when I bring that up. To hell with that. The movie is called Transformers, therefore they should be the actual stars of it. I wanted to see some heavy metal mayhem as the Autobots and Decepticons fought it out.

Which leads me to the second point.

2) That goddamn aweful shaky cam.

As Derrick Ferguson has put it several times, I want to see the action not "be in the action". And I'd definitely rather see Bumblebee and Barricade fight it out then Sam vs. Frenzy. Which brings me to my third point.

3) I hated the romance story between Sam and that one girl.

Again I came to see the Autobots and Decepticons fight, romance was never something I wanted to see. I literally fastfowarded through those parts.

I am a huge transformers fanboy but that movie was disappointing. If doing an actual live action movie about the Transformers is something they can't realistically do...then simply don't make one.

All Star Superman #9....WTF? And Mic might have a point.

Reading All Star Superman issue 9 and....what the hell?

Lame excuses from Clark for being missing for two months, beaten around by Bar-El using...a heat ray blast to the face and then a knee to the groin.

And then smashed into the moon...which breaks it in half?

Then Bar-Ell and Lillo fix the Moon.

And they find they are dieing of Kryponite poisoning. Bar-El makes up with Superman, and they go to Phantom Zone.

Superman thinks they'll bring law and order to the place.

WTF is all I can see about that issue.

The worst part was seeing Clark Kent so...puny acting. I got to agree with Mic that letting Clark have some guts and a backbone is a good thing. Mild mannered doesn't have to mean spineless loser.

The biggest problem I have is that the Silver Age elements in All Star Superman are likely the wrong ones to use. Jeff Melton is a master at picking the right elements to use in a story, and keep a more adult (and in the sense of not insulting the intelligence of the audience instead of gradious sex, swearing, and nudity) tone to the story.

Grant Morrison dropped the ball on that. He can do so much better. He knows how to tell a great story, as we've seen elsewhere. This issue looked more like a bad Dragonball Z ep then anything else.

It really is a shame. Seeing Bar-El and Lillo in the first five pages of All Star Superman at Newsrama got my imagination into overdrive. The issue...wow. It was a huge let down.

Avoid this steaming pile of Silver Age flavored crap.

And please hurry Mic...I need something to wash the taste out of my mouth.

Is it me or are some of Wonder Woman's foes seriously fucked up? I mean "Surprised that they haven't been updated a bit and have All Star Batman fight the weiros" level fucked up.

I mean you look at the foes of the various GLs and only Major Force is that fucked up. Of course Major Force always that way.

While Batman's just get more fucked up over the years. With the exception of the Joker. He basically was returned to what he was before the "kid friendly" make over. He always was a sadistic killer.

While Superman's foes seem to just get uglier as time goes on.

The foes of the Green Lanterns...they stay pretty much just bad guys. Though it seems most of them are now ring wearing members of the Sinestro Corps. Basically they unionized.

Need to look at the Flash's foes.
